Attahasam Asianet Plus host Sabu banned from Leela Kovalam !!
September 25, 2006
Last weekend I was at Leela Kempinski, Kovalam when I witnessed a very interesting incident involving the host of Attahasam on Asianetplus - Sabu.
Sabu had come for Sunday lunch at Leela with some of his friends - there were about 7 or 8 of them. While they were leaving the hotel after lunch, they got into a scuffle with a guest staying at the hotel. I am not aware of the exact reasons for the fight, but the hotel management (including GM), staff and security had to intervene to restrain Sabu and his friends from physically attacking the other guest.
Some of the dialogues or rather Sabu's (and friends') Attahasams that I picked up at the scene were (all were in Malayalam, reported here in English):
Sabu : "You don't make half the money that I do"
Sabu : "Give me back my 6000 rupees, now!"
One of Sabu's friends:"Do you know that I am a member of a political party"
Another of Sabu's friend referring to Sabu: "You don't know him (and what he is capable of)"
The staff at Leela mentioned later that this group had also caused trouble at the Activity center and were reported for eve-teasing at the pool. The management said that the group had been black listed and that they will not be allowed entry to Leela again.
I felt that I had to report an incident like this because with the popularity of programs like Attahasam, a lot of youth today are holding the hosts and VJs as role models. When people of such weak character are seen as role models, then it does not augur well for the future of our youth.
With regard to this incident, I hope it is somehow brought to the attention of officials at Asianet and they take action to prevent such characters from wielding influence on a very influential medium. I also hope that sponsors of these programs (like Geepas) take notice of these incidents and act in greater responsibility by refusing sponsorship for programs conducted by hosts with ill repute.
PS: On coming to know of this fight, I rushed to get my camera and take some snaps so that I would have proof, but by the time I came back with the camera, the situation had begun to diffuse. In case I had been able to get some snaps, I could even have had them passed on the main stream media like the newspapers and magazines.
PPS: In case you have not noticed, reports like these are what are now becoming popluar as "Grassroots journalism by the people". This is made possible by two things: 1. Camera phones 2. Blogs.
