Google Adwords - The new era of advertising
August 18, 2005
Google is on its path to rewrite the advertising scenario. There is evidence of a paradigm shift in advertising. More and more money is being spent on online through the search advertising methods. This has caused quite a flurry at Madison Avenue.
The key reason why search advertising is so efficient is due to its relevance. The ad creative is presented before its target when the target is searching for just that. This is very very powerful.
The target or the person who is searching, is receptive and even eager for the content that is presented before him/her. Contrast this to the 30-second spots that come up often when you are watching an episode of Friends on TV. The latter is an unwelcome intrusion in most cases, a break (yes aptly named commercial break) that you get to fetch a soda or a bag of chips!
As more and more people are spending increasing amount of time online, the demand and audience for online search advertising just keeps growing. With the wider adoption of broadband, this could evolve into image or video ads.
The other key reason why search advertising is efficient is due to its interactive nature. When the advertisement content is presented before the target, there is a response that is immediately available from him or her. Why and how this makes search advertisement efficient will be the subject of my next blog.

Google - a difference it makes
August 16, 2005
That is definitely true for employees of Google who must have profited nicely from its IPO - but that's not what Google did for me. Google made a difference for me through its Adwords program.
For those who are not familiar with Google Adwords, it is that which causes the appearance of sponsored results when you search for anything on Google. That means companies & advertisers pay Google to display their ads. This is a major source of revenue for Google.
Anyone who wants to advertise anything can use this. Google Adwords is quite simple to set up and use.
They way it works is like this. When someone searches for a term or phrase on Google, Google shows up paid advertisements that are relevant to that search. If someone happens to click on it, the advertiser pays Google. The advertiser gets traffic to his site.
The way the relevance of the ad is determined is through "keywords". Keywords are terms and phrases that the advertiser can specify for which he/she wants the ad to appear. The advertiser also needs to specify a CPC (cost per click). This is the maximum that he is willing to pay Google for a click.
More on Google Adwords later. I use Google Adwords for affiliate marketing. It is a powerful tool. The key is to know how to effectively use Google Adwords. When used effectively, Google Adwords can be extremely rewarding for affiliate partnerships.
